and the entire setting you have gotten used to, the characters you know and might like or hate are either dead, an adult now, or MIA. You completely get lost as to what is happening, and the writing doesnt help by making every character dumb as f#ck, like his old friends which want to kill him because he is the parent of the giant that killed their friends, lovers, and such. How that makes any sense is a mystery to me, as he knows his friends more than his kids, and his potential makes him a better ally than enemy.

Enemies become friends and friends become enemies. And the worst part is, the author f#cking killed Artemis. Why Artemis? She was the best. I liked her so much. I got so mad that I just spilled all my hate on a game. Anyways even though I hated the fact that she died, I still continued so I know the author tried to fix things and well, I guess he did a pretty good job at it. So in the end it all boils down to the fact that it's a decent novel.

Although the premise is excellent, the characters suffer greatly.

First, our hero Evans doesn't have a stable personality. At one moment, he acts like a nine-year-old and the other like a hoodlum. He is supposedly a 16-year-old boy who lives in the slums with his abusive father. His father has seemingly beaten up and molested Evans multiple times. Also, Evans hasn't had an iota of education until that official start of the story. Now I ask you how the **** is Evans acting like a nine-year-old when he had gone through that kind of life. When you go through that stuff, you either break or close yourself and distance yourself from others. Despite his somewhat skewed logic (due to lack of education), Evans doesn't fall under any categories. It's like his personality froze when he reached nine, and from time to time, his hoodlum behavior surfaces. It doesn't work like that.
Moreover, him not knowing that he killed his father is a significant plot hole. He knows that it kills someone. He can collect his soul and decide where to send it. When he processed his father's soul, he was awake and aware of what he was doing and whose soul it was. So it's illogical for him not to know that he killed his father.

Victoria Gates doesn't have enough character development to justify her sudden attraction to Evans. We know that she can't express her feelings easily from when she was a kid. Other than that, we don't know anything about her. She is a blank slate. We do learn some things about her family, but that doesn't constitute knowing her personality.

Sarah x Andrea:
What to say about this... When I first read about their relationship, I thought it was a joke from Andrea to "lighten" the mood. Oh boy, I was wrong. When she confirmed she was severe, there was an instinctive disgust about their relationship. Don't get me wrong, I don't frown upon the sexual preferences of others or the existence of homosexual couples, but that was my first reaction to that. Let us see, first, being homosexual is illegal and punished by death. Sarah and Andrea first met when Evans was recuperating from his near-death experience. The next time they met was supposedly when Evans brought Andrea to his new house. So either Sarah shagged Andrea when Evans was recuperating in the hospital or after she gave him his home. In both cases, Sarah's motives for helping Evans turn more immoral than curious about his system. Her giving him that house was too much for just a suspicion (her sister's house). So the most probable reason is for coming close to Andrea. Andrea, on the other side, seems to be more shallow than she shows. She supposedly cares for Evans a lot as she has watched out for him while being abused. Nonetheless, she repeatedly hooked up with a stranger despite knowing Evans's precarious position, both emotionally and physically (as he killed his father and some people learned about it). Instead of hiding the fact that Evans killed his father unconsciously, Sarah starts yapping her mouth at her "subordinates" without being sure if they will keep it a secret. Also, Sarah decided that Evans wasn't in a bad situation with him killing his father get known, she had to have an illegal relationship with his only emotional anchor. Great thinking 👏👏.

The brother duo is some of the few genuine characters with accurate and somewhat logical development.

Beatrice is also somewhat interesting, even though her becoming first is slightly questionable. But that can be chalked up to her inferiority complex manifesting through her parent's predicament. Meaning her inferiority complex has reached such a level that it has turned into a mania.

Lastly, this novel is supposedly called My Hermes System, but the system has minimal interaction with the story. You can count on two hands when Evans used his system except for his one passive and one active ability. So why is this called My Hermes System?

Suppose W wants this novel to be even remotely called decent. In that case, the author needs to make some severe revisions on his characters as Evans seems like a puppet, Cassandra is a blank paper, and Andrea x Sarah is disgusting and fake. Despite that, the world-building is decent and needs a bit more exploring.

P.S. The explorer's chairman seems like one of those characters in wuxia novels that don't know how to think (despite having a lot of experience in surviving dangerous situations and schemes) and are meant to be the antagonist of the story.
