Xu Qing lives in a world where the weak are the prey of the strong, and every day is a fight to survive.

The aura of a god has polluted the entire world, including the resources necessary to practice cultivation. As a result, cultivators risk mutation and death when they try to become more powerful.

Xu Qing’s goals are simple: he wants to survive, and he wants to find his lost family. He lives in brutal, ruthless, and chaotic circumstances, but he encounters good people that become his close friends.

He is not crafty and cowardly like Bai Xiaochun. He is not clever and greedy like Meng Hao.

He is his own person, and if you want to find out what he’s like… you’ll have to start reading!

Official blurb translated from Chinese:

All living beings in heaven and earth are guests in a tavern. The timescape is also an old customer.

The difference between life and death is like the difference between dreaming and waking. Even years of study might not reveal the truth of such complex transformations.

What awaits on the other side of life and death? What surpasses heaven and earth? What lies beyond the timescape?

    If the author doesnt f the latter parts of his novel like he normaly does than this is gonna be a masterpiece(would be the first and only among cultivation) would currently put this (version/translation the other one is in my opinion not a masterpiece) at above 9,5 about at 9,6-9,7 if the author continues doing as well as he currently does (in the other version) i think it might go up to 9,9/10 but i strongly doubt that seeing his last works sigh

      Its kinda different from all his past book, his purposefully avoid cliche in this. There's an ancestor from a youngmaster clan who read xianxia and knows mc will grow up if he send elders so he went out directly but is super cowardly too, its hilarious, give it a try.

    Does anyone know how this novel is related to the other Er Gen novels? I mean I know the other 5 novels are connected and all the mc’s are one of the five: God, Immortal, Demon, Devil, and Ghost but what could this mc be? I’ve tried looking for info on the net but couldn’t find anything, but I did notice some techniques in here that are in the authors other novels. Maybe I don’t understand Er Gen’s universe well enough

        Ohh, so this is before
        in the timeline. But Xu Qing not a part of The God, Immortal, Demon, Devil, and Ghost right? And also do you know if Renegade Immortal, Pursuit of the Truth, or AWWP explain the significance of those beings? I’ve only read ISSTH and AWE (I’m planning on reading the rest next) so I might have missed their meaning, but from what I’ve seen they haven’t really explained what those beings really mean or do in the grand scheme of things

            Damn I didn’t even know that, where did you find out about where the mc was born? Also in case others complain about spoilers don’t forget to use the spoiler tag. To get to it you have to look at the different buttons above the comment box and slide to the far right, it’s the last button.

                No worries, it took me like a year to find the spoiler button. And thanks man, I'll check it out then. Do you know if Xu Qing has anything to do with God, Immortal, Demon, Devil, and Ghost? Or is that only in the deep earth star ring? Honestly I know the main characters can become these beings but I don't know the significance of it, maybe because I didn't finish reading the first two novels yet.

    Top tier writing quality, peak translation and yet no integrity.

    It is like a string of beads of various beautiful gems connected loosely and each of those gems are merely shells of low quality and each filled with countless holes; thus, losing their luster.
    This is how ' Beyond the Timescape ' makes me feel.

    Note:
    A friend of mine(#Farzin_k#) read this, complimented the book a number of times and next thing I know, he has dropped it.
    There were problems but up until chapter 31, Mc being a pioneer in his martial arts, his unique gem and shadow and all the unknowns in the novel world greatly attracted me...
    Now at chapter 41, I have no choice but to drop this; the 4+ out of 5 rating seems like an absolute riddle to me.

    If I were to ever, and I mean ever recommend this to anyone, it would be solely to see how far they can go before dropping the book. If you haven't read the book, this is as far as you should go.

    Pr: #Farzin_k#

    Summary & conclusion :
    If you didn't want to read the review, this part alone should be enough.

    Mc doesn't think about any information he gets from others. A number of examples would be : human treasure, linking with treasures, the reason nobles would want human treasures, seven colored gem and possible relation to the violent gem and so on.

    Author gave Mc various traits but with no related backstory, just that he has lived in the slums so he is like this or that yet no explanation. For example: we do not have a SINGLE name of ANYONE who lived in the slums with our Mc. I can't accept this; Mc seems to have lived in the slums but no relationships were forged, no kindness was remembered, no one was cursed upon, not a single situation or person was compared with a clear slums' counterpart. Even when Mc says " Some of my buddies were taken to ... " , and when even here we dont get any names, how can they be considered his buddies? . Even when Mc collects all the corpses and burns them, there is not a single person familiar? If it is like this, how did he even survive as a kid?? Not to mention that author even wants our Mc to have memories of his family... sorry, but with how this is written, I call BULLSH*T.

    Here is how the novel should have went:
    Triple the 40 chapters to 120, here experience can be slowly accumulated and
    there is no need to explain all his traits from slums, he can learn combat slowly, and the other group will cancel their plan because they don't have 2 of their members and their target has 1 more member; Tension is high and conflict rises but going through it with the team would actually make their relationship believable and with Mc slowly becoming formidable, maybe even launch a revenge plan of their own... or things could become completely different, the elimination plan not happening at the first expedition but later on when the ranger guy and the tamer girl get married, she can even be pregnant and here it makes sense for seargent to tell them to scatter. And for the human treasure and gem related questions, if Mc is to trust seargent and teacher Bai, he has to ask them about his situation and finally get some information. ( esp from teacher Bai)

    Mc's non-existent thought process:

    1. When seargent first mentioned the term 'human treasure'
    ( MC should have thought that the term 'human treasure' is kinda the situation he has. He did ask seargent but he didnt give it further thought; what does it mean to 'link' with treasures and basically find out if he is considered a human treasure and since some rich people wanted human treasures then maybe even if mc is not one, he might be mistaken as one and be troubled.
    So I think it is safe to say that our mc would collect information asap in a way that doesent arouse too much attention... WRONG
    )

    2. When seargent informed mc of the temple and how it is said to be formed because the eyes of the god opened and how there are some special crystals that can be grinded and rub on scars and the scar is gone... and to top it off, sime important people come asking for them.
    ( MC should have thought
    1 : The fact that the temple is ordinary just means that you guys haven't looked carefully enough
    2 : the seven colored gem and its properties sound like the gem embedded in my chest, maybe there is a connection? Maybe I can power up if I consume them in a special way? Has no one really thought of embedding them inside themselves?
    3 : During the ambush, when the group decided to scatter, mc did not even consider visiting the temple; especially since, seargent thunder stated that if you are in danger, it's a good place to hide. although I do agree that this choice could have resulted in an early demise.
    4 : Wirh the combination of "Some reach people need human treasures"
    , "Some important people come asking for crystals" , and the violent crystal inside Mc... it seems that it is of utmost importance that MC collects information about his situation so he will probably do that as soon as he is relatively free or finds someone trustworthy enough to ask him specifically about the crystal inside his chest... once again WRONG )

    3. After sleeping a night at the temple and then getting information from seargent about the past occurrences of that 'event'
    (Knowing this, mc should have been on the look out for the mist thing and then go sleep at the temple and see the saber technique a few more times so he can understand sth more out of it; how about even going there with seargent? Maybe seargent can get sth out of that experience; at this point, I am greatly disappointed with Mc)

    4. The mist insurance :
    After the mist incident and mc saving a bunch of people, the same batch asked mc to save them if the mist came back and gave him some money regardless of whether the mist came up or not and mc accepted
    (By this point MC had no need for anything they gave him and accepting their money was like putting a restraint on himself; I understand the concept of easy money but this is more like a contract that one can't fulfill from a karma prespective, many things can go wrong and from a materialistic view, their money should not have moved the mc at all. Even if he wanted to give them insurance, in return he shouldn't have gone for money but strange objects, seven colored stones, books, information about other scavenger camps, other temples(?), unique knowledge.

    Mc's upright character: Knowing or anticipating that there might be situations where he can't save the buyers should have made him outright turn them down.

    'Slum background' : with his background, he should known that accepting their money comes with a responsibility and being considered on "their sides", which is another rejection for the buyers.

    This seems like a contradiction to Mc's upright character and 'slums' background)

    Mc's background and its ties to his actions:

    1. Slums:
    It is stated that mc has lived in the slums from 6 to 12 and his ruthlessness and Mc's supposed 'coldness' to others is a
    Byproduct of that.
    However, the primary question is: how did he survive in the first place? and if he did survive, how much of his ferociousness, decisiveness, and ruthlessness could be explained with it?

    Slums background check is very simple.

    Suppose everybody speak the same language, different
    country, pick a city, go to the slums, based on physical attributes and wisdom we can then guess how they would fare.

    In the case of Mc, as a 6 years old with no experience... things aren't looking good. I feel like if there is anything he can do is to become a beggar.

    Scenario(1) :
    A family would show him kindness and take him in, gives him a place to live, feeds him and treats him as one of their own. Either he lives like this or misfortune befalls... Fast forward to 'eye opening' , now there are multiple things that if they happen, you would know this scenario happened :
    1. Mc mourns for them
    2. Mc would think of their kindness and miss them
    3. Mc would think of the misfortune, its drastic effect on his life and how it took his new family from him

    Q: did any of the above happen?

    Scenario(2) :
    No gangs, no beggar group at most individuals
    After sometime either someone would give Mc food or Mc himself would ask for food and when a couple days go on like this, now Mc would have a new identity as a beggar.
    Either he lives like this or learns the craft of someone else and probably works for them...
    Fast forward until the ' eye opening ' here are things that can validate this scenario:
    1. Mc talks about his time as a beggar
    2. If Mc has a lifestyle skill, for example needling, wood cutting and etc

    Q: did any of these two happen?

    Scenario(3) :
    There are gang members and/or a beggar group, either could take him in as a beggar and he lives a life filled with blood and gore and that's is the gist of it...
    Fast forward until the ' eye opening ' and this is most likely the Mc has lived except that his actions betray this:

    1. Killing the first guy was rash, he had no idea who he was, whether seargent is in any way responsible for the guy's safety, how seargent would react to the kill, whether scavengers use any defensive measures against betrayals ... Mc just went for it which is simply rash.
    Instead, he should have hinted at seargent with sth like " Since the burly guy is injured and tired... if this goes on, it wouldn't be that surprising if an accident happened to him, right? "
    If met with a positive answer, how about following up with " ... and if the accident were to strike at night? "
    To inquire if there are any measures he has to be on guard against or if he should act at night at all. (This approach is because he is literally at the mercy of seargent. In the original, without checking first with seargent, he could have just died there.
    Later on at the scavenger camp, Mc grits his teeth and hold off the killing for later ...)

    2. When the team went for the first expedition and after finding out that it was all a trap:
    Mc was way too trusting of them, If it were any other team leader, he would have chosen to either use mc as bait or after mc agrees ro the plan of scattering, they might all gang up on him, kill him and tell him that this group is not a charitable organization and it was a test to see if he would stay.

    Mc should have thought:
    1. It might all be a test
    2. When the group loses ( seargent and savage tooth) the other two can easily go to other scavenger camps or somewhere else but Mc doesent have that much information or connection and there is no certainty that there won't be a team waiting for them at the entrance to kill them.
    Instead, he should have suggested retaliation;
    On the grounds that he had already killed 2 of them, and with his addition, if they use savage tooth and seargent as bait, the remaining 3 then can sneak up to the enemy and take out a few, from then on it is just snowballing. And then maybe entice them about the loot they might get or their standing getting elevated to the best team no question asked ( This is because Mc is still unsure of their character)

    3. When they apprehended seargent and Mc went on a crazy rampage:
    Why? I have no problem eith Mc respecting seargent or have an amicable opinion of him but for Mc to run around like a headless chicken? Nah
    Here is the deal, what seargent did for Mc was:
    1. Being a responsible team leader to him, asking him and others to scatter and faced the danger head on. Then when Mc came to help, seargent told Mc to escape multiple times.
    2. Cooked for Mc and tidied up his place the times, adviced him not to endanger himself.

    And that's about it; Seargent is like the veteran team leader who took an arrow to the knee on their first mission together and then cooked for Mc and showed concern for his survival.
    This is more like the kind uncle from the neighborhood and by no means should this uncle's misfortune have resulted in Mc losing his mind.

    I get it, Mc wants to do sth for seargent; but killing everything in his way is not the way, it is not even clear if seargent is here or even alive... instead of losing his cool, Mc should have steathly infiltrated to find out seargent's whereabouts. And then see if it is possible to strike now or he needs to bid his time and come back later for revenge.

    Minor problem (s):

    1. We are informed that MC had only seen the back of one cultivator and yet time and time again the number of cultivators around our Mc would get compared to what he had seen before... which is ridiculous; considering that the number being compared to is literally 1. And it also doesn't make that much sense for there to be cultivators in the city and hin to know about it with the setting that they are super rare
