In the land of the Xia Kingdom, every human being is born with what is known as a ‘resonance’, either to a specific element or a powerful, mythical beast.

Unfortunately, Li Luo was born with an incredibly rare condition known as a blank resonance — as the name suggests, he doesn’t have one! Normally, this would be utterly crippling, but at least he has the advantage of being the young master of the mighty House Loulan, one of the five Great Houses of Xia. Unfortunately, his parents, the powerful masters of House Loulan, have gone missing for many years, and the other Great Houses are beginning to eye their holdings quite hungrily.

For that matter, plenty are also eyeing his talented, beautiful childhood friend and fiancee Jiang Qing’e, who has been leading House Loulan in his parents’ stead! Li Luo would much rather keep a low profile and wants call off the engagement — but Jiang Qing’e has flatly refused. What’s a ‘useless young master’ to do?

Is there any way he can get out of this engagement? Can he figure out a way to protect his House from the jackals circling around it? And… is a blank resonance really useless?

Come and find out! Collapse

Odd that people hate this so much, this is definitely in like my top five of cultivation novels. I love elemental takes on the power system asides from weird 'qi' and 'techniques' which are never thoroughly explained, and I enjoy Li Luo's personality; I don't really see him being a doormat anywhere, and the FMCs are generally rather enjoyable, fleshed out characters as opposed to caricatures we usually see in harem novels.

I suppose he isn't the type to go out for people's blood, but I find that a nice breath of fresh air from characters who are easily offended and treat people's lives like they're nothing. I'm enjoying the relatively slow pace (though I confess it's a tad grating and concerning, as at this pace, I have no clue when this novel might actually end, if ever) and the slow development of the characters.

That said, this novel could benefit from being a tad more focused. Li Luo and the characters are the main draw here, but he's been in the same place for a while now, and I want to see more of the world. However, as he's finally quite strong, I'm hoping that when the current Housemeet arc ends that novel takes the time to break free of its shell and have him explore more of the world.

    A solid 9/10 from me.

Kinda. There's a lot of byplay and the like, and romance is hinted at plenty, but there's no real kissing or even anything like dates - that said, there are some fluffy bits between him and the person he's most likely to end up with, so that counts in a way. Don't worry, though; most of the romance is side-lined for good reason. I expect actual romance will come into play down the line.

MC is a big biggy simp from what I remember, that's why no one likes him. But, from the recent comments seems like the limp dick didn't change much.

The novel for now is really not bad, the characters are really fun, at least most of them. My problem is that knowing the author we all know he is gonna rush the last two or three realms like he always does and it's probably ending between 1300~1700 chapters.

I've never ready any of the author's previous works, but it seems quite likely. He'll be King-level at Duke and god-knows-what at King. :/ When you reach higher levels of power in cultivation, it's difficult to keep the formula of 'challenges' going that most novels like this have in the early stages, so it's really up to how well the author can handle a powerful character MC. I've only really seen it done well in AWE.

ofc he could always go the ascension route but that doesn't seem like this novel's thing.

If it was japanese novel MC would have been cuckolded by FMC long ago. I mean his attitude resembles a literal jackass yearning for masochism without a shred of dignity. Just give a smile when you are ridiculed.
Even the property left by his clueless parents wasn't controlled by him. Isn't it normal for a person to choose a Normal horse if you can't ride a stallion. Is it that important to run for childhood love even when you are treated like air?
Author really created a proper chinese novel this time a pity I can't appreciate this work any further and I advise the same for non-chinese personnel.

You talk sh*t about the cuckold thing but otherwise I agree with you on the rest, it's a well written novel with good ideas but a shame the FMC is an arrogant bitch and the MC be a simp and ain't no spine or dignity, it reminds me of Japanese novels with a beta mc evil

and damn like that makes you angry especially when the author says it's for character development, bruh there is no need to have character development to have a minimum of dignity F#CKKK!!!! ohno

Sorry I needed to shout somewhere this sh*t is so frustrating, thanks bro 4

Thus novel is just ridiculous I mean what kind of parents leave such a mess behind....it's either they are powerful and this is a test for their hair or plainly stupid.
600 chapters the story hasn't moved an inch the tautological events happening are boring they induce 😴 sleep or brain 🧠 coma.
The idea is awesome the Author is legendary but the book is f#cken slow to the level of skipping the whole chapter sometimes

Read the first 112 chapters, and so far I can say that this definitely a story worth reading.

Li Luo (MC), the Young Master of the falling House Luolan was seen as a prodigy until it was found out that he had the unique constitution of "Blank Palaces" - and not just one but three of them. Usually, in order to cultivate, one must have a resonance with an element or a beast, but Li Luo has none, thus is unable to absorb spirit energy. He is unparalleled in resonance arts and is like a sponge with fighting techniques, but until he was 17 he has to passively watch everyone overtake him, and with the recent disappearance of his parents, whom were amongst the strongest in Xia kingdom, his House is falling into disarray plagued by internal and external problems.

The story telling is good, combined with nice character descriptions and flowing dialog, shows what an experienced author can deliver. Yes, Heavenly Silkworm Potato is the same author who also wrote Battle Through The Heavens, The Great Ruler, and Wu Dong Qian Kun. It also shows that the author is consciously aware of common Xianxia and Xuanhuan tropes that plague the genres, such as broken engagements, auction arcs, etc., and he is trying to actively avoid them or take a new spin on the tropes. E.g., this time it's the MC who's trying to break the engagement, but the FMC, Jiang Qing'e is blocking his every attempt. This is really nice to see, and brings a breath of fresh air, to an otherwise overused concept. Furthermore, the setting doesn't feel like it's in ancient China, but is somehow modern with academies, schools, and an established rule of law, but with leeway for the powerful to bend these rules.

So far so good, but there's still a lot of minor things that bug me the hell off. First off, let's talk (read: rant eyetwit ) about the FMC, Jiang Qing'e (I'll put this in spoiler as, well, there're spoilers).

Phew, that was a load off my chest.

Overall, the MC has his problems, but luckily, there is character development, and the MC is showing more wisdom in the later chapters - if only he could fix his simping attitude.
In general, side characters are well described, with each their own quirks, looks, personality, and hobbies.

Grammar and translation quality is top notch, this coupled with the colorful and descriptive language really brings forth the immersion. Furthermore, with the story splitting its focus on the MC's efforts solving the problems that face his House and his cultivation, you generally feel like this story is something new, but familiar, that can easily captivate you.

In conclusion, I'll give Absolute Resonance 4.3/5* due to great writing, interesting characters, unique spin on well-known tropes, but the MC and FMC are frustrating. Stick with it until chapter 30, before making your own verdict - the plot picks up at around chapter 15.

    Happy reading! welldone

I was about to try this novel, but after reading your review, I don’t wanna waste my brain cells on this shit.

Your above reasons are why I generally prefer non-character development MCs. It’s just to much of pain in the ass to watch them grow slowly, also I ain’t got time for that.

And finally simping part just made me wanna just f#ck off right on. But I do agree, without simping and character development ( already developed) this novel would easily be top.
