Had a hard time understanding what was going on.

Didn't like the writing style.

Too childish to my taste.

You can read it and it's your own desicion. I simply didn't find it good.

Not sure what exactly is not liked in here, but from my perspective the issue could be that the story starts off quite light hearted, but quickly spirals down into a very deep rabbit hole and ends up being a completely different story as initial chapters might have portrayed.

This kind of writing style is used quite alot on Authors other works as well. Where, plot starts out lighthearted and suddenly it throws in a dark twist or two that you would not otherwise expect, but it is explained and done well enough that if you keep reading you will understand more of it and it would make sense.

MC is quite well designed Anti-hero character with problems and issues of his own so the story at least has very good direction. PS it is not mentioned in the beginning of the story, but will naturally be discovered as you read further on.

This novel is written by a native English language author, so the quality of the writing is quite high and there are many complicated words, and soo some readers who read novels with low level writing till now are having hard time adapting to this level of writing, and some readers like the person you asked the question couldn't handle it.
