In the land of the Xia Kingdom, every human being is born with what is known as a ‘resonance’, either to a specific element or a powerful, mythical beast.

Unfortunately, Li Luo was born with an incredibly rare condition known as a blank resonance — as the name suggests, he doesn’t have one! Normally, this would be utterly crippling, but at least he has the advantage of being the young master of the mighty House Loulan, one of the five Great Houses of Xia. Unfortunately, his parents, the powerful masters of House Loulan, have gone missing for many years, and the other Great Houses are beginning to eye their holdings quite hungrily.

For that matter, plenty are also eyeing his talented, beautiful childhood friend and fiancee Jiang Qing’e, who has been leading House Loulan in his parents’ stead! Li Luo would much rather keep a low profile and wants call off the engagement — but Jiang Qing’e has flatly refused. What’s a ‘useless young master’ to do?

Is there any way he can get out of this engagement? Can he figure out a way to protect his House from the jackals circling around it? And… is a blank resonance really useless?

Come and find out! Collapse

Read 1000+ chapters. I don’t recommend it to those who don’t like: 1. Tournaments. There should be at least 1 tournament every 100 chapters. 2. Mentally retarded hero. It has 3 resonances that need to be increased, but what does it do? Gives away half of the resources that he received alone to random people, just so that later they won’t say that he is greedy 3. With how many advantages the author gave to the hero, triple resonances, artifacts... he should defeat anyone 1 large kingdom above himself, but he has difficulty defeating opponents at 1 small kingdom above. If this doesn't bother you too much, you can read

90 chapters is a good enough amount to understand where the story was going. Not for me. An 80 chapter tournament arc to start the story is not my cup of tea.

Absolute Resonance is really pretty good. It is truly great as far as Chinese cultivation novels go, good for light, inconsequential reading.
As with any of them its like rocking up to a bartender and asking them to f#ck you up for the night - youre going to be served poison, but if youre going to have a good night itll largely depend on what you can stomach and anything new brought to the table.

By chapter 24 it felt obvious to me that this doesnt make any waves away from the typical idea of a novel of this type. The usual negatives are tiresome and the usual positives tend to have been done before in a different combination.

Casual chinese sexism is casual and inherent, no improvement here, the bar is so f#cking low that theres nothing more to say on this that wont be more of a waste of time.

The scope of the novel feels rather narrow especially because every character seems to see the concept of the world revolving around oneself as something both real and something to fight for, like its a hot potato, like theyre fighting for the authors attention, like readers should align their thoughts and intentions with the authors which are written between the lines.

The Main Character feels hollow and without a sense of self due to their initial portrayal as indifferent and aloof, early on when essentially a cripple, and then later, cheeky and <i>'charismatic'</i> while feeling whingy and naive to read of. I cant tell if the MC is meant to be more of an underdog, an 'everyman's-dog' or a dog in ‘plot armor paint,’ looking the wolf, playing the pig, to only beat up the next naysayer and profess his superiority and rightful possession of the aforementioned potato, for them to come back next chapter to do it all again.
In the face of female characters where the MC feels more like their side character in his eventual definite deferment. With most interactions being flirty and sometimes suggestive, but nothing really of note. Its just a tease which feels like filler. Many comments over the chapters complain of his simping. This, as far as ive read, seems to be a blanket condition that contributes to the mc being more one-dimensional/depthless/shallow.
As it seems universal in AR, is this the authors counter to the sexism? idk, it just feels like bad writing imo - no respect for the idea of a female 'self' and implication towards being an object of worship or acknowledgement of an alternative let alone a spectrum of thought.

In AR it reads like there are no stakes, or rather there is no weight in what is going on, there may or may not be plot armor but this is written in a way where it feels like there will be.
Which is worse than if there is plot armor and its written to hide/incorporate it well.
I dont find myself caring all that much about the plot, which could be more interesting with further exploration and development of subgenres/side characters/ whatever the MC is too briefly doing.
Perhaps it would feel as if there is more at stake if the MC was interesting, (there are several chapters where there are comments pointing out the MC's stupidity)
Or if it felt like the world existed outside of the MC and its time didnt seem to be at a standstill till they come to acknowledge it. Tree falls and whatnot.
Or if the MC would kill at all, by ch 600 i dont think he has killed a human. (this novels version of monsters that are written to be put down dont count)
This is annoying because of what i'll call the 'villain groupie antagonist cascade' where this chapters villain group is made up of last chapters antagonists as side characters to the main bad guy who feels like flavor of the week.
While new characters tend to be fun and interesting, every new male character seems to be written in to be against the MC and every new female character seems to be written in to be drawn to him, like its a reverse harem where rather than the term meaning many men being gathered by a single female, the term refers to many women gathering themselves around a single male. Either way while its still not technically a harem (nearly no such thing as a good harem novel(because of harem not in spite of)) it feels like its a bait and switch in terms of this genre. Most male/female interactions (other than main female character) feel a little forced and it gives the impression that the author couldnt write a proper romance with characters other than the MC getting proper development prior and during and then being more than accessories to the MC later on.

AR’s power system/cultivation is unique (yay) and the ranks are coherent and interesting that seem to be leading to a cohesive continuation of cultivation of power of the self, in a direction im really rather enjoying but the way its written is a bit boring. (aww) MC gathers energy to breakthrough to reach the next stage is written in a way that it reads with equal interest in getting enough money to buy the next specific colour of hairspray.
Anyway the inclusion of 'enlightenment' exists, which is great, but is written like ' the MC thinks 'this' then understands 'that' and it all suddenly comes together' how very clever our MC is.
Perhaps im just spoilt by having read of the enlightenment in Forge Of Destiny - which is unparalleled.

    @ ch600
I'm interested to see the continuation of AR. imo its better than many novels of this kind, despite how much ive dragged it here. Its coherent, unique-ish in cultivation and doesnt feel thoughtless in its writing.
Certainly above the level of monkeys and typewriters and at least its not a harem.
I want to see what the cultivation will turn into, because it feels like its going to be something more than just +1 level to level 10 then reset and next rank.
i hope the author has more to say socially with the MC and his interactions with people.
Id like the clan building aspect to be more indepth and actually resolve some of its problems rather than having one last 600 chapters without the MC doing anything about it with the author writing him and themself into a corner just because.
I hope the MC and the author grow a pair and do something about the <i>'romance,'</i> before the tail end of the novel.

If youre looking for a good cultivation novel, then before reading this, id first suggest
Forge of Destiny (writing is a craft/could rec to any reader/sufficient velocity poll)
    Unintended cultivator (introspective of genre)
    Swallowed Star (apocalyptic/space/futuristic)
    Coiling Dragon (old classic)

I read some of the comments bellow I don’t really agree with the statement of extreme Simp behavior from the Mc Li Lou at least it’s not a harem with dramas etc. But I do agree that he is not really respected by the people of House Loulan, the women are haughty it’s unbelievable , I mean he is the young Lord. However given that he is weak ,had blank resonances that dont allow him to cultivate and the rules of the house it self don’t really allow him do as he pleases you can feel is powerlessness, but it does change as he gets stronger and grows.

The author illustrates more woman in in higher positions compared to other cultivation novels. it’s more or less balanced out not all teachers/elders etc are old guys. it’s a breath of fresh air I suppose.

    Irrelevant rant

Overall I have to say it’s a great novel 4.8/5 the pacing is slower but worth it give it shoot.

It was a bit too long for my taste. Getting to the next stage i mean. There is a 500 chapter gap getting the next resonance while he got the second resonance too soon.

It's my second reading of the novel, yes you don't get it wrong, it's my second reading so I'll give a short review with a little spoiler.

When I first read up to chapter 400, I reached the weekly release and decided to hoard to read again. I can only say that I thought a novel with potential wasted on frustrations with "harem" (THERE IS NO HAREM) and "teen drama". The prota was a simp that didn't have much strength and that left many frustrating situations. So while the world building, farming system and everything else is good, it wasn't very enjoyable

That all changed on my second read, up to chapter 889.

First, I see that the protagonist's personality is not that of a simp, he just doesn't have power at the beginning of the novel and doesn't have much choice. His "cheat" or "golden finger" (His three palaces) is ineffective in the beginning with a resonance, improving when he achieves the duality of the resonance and showing his power when the Triple Resonance

Second, the prota is really decisive and courageous, because despite his caution he never ran away from his feelings or any dangerous situation without reasons. Whenever he needed to fight, he fought with his life on the line.

Third, he really loves Jiang Qing'e, although it seems that he occasionally flirts with various women, he has never allowed a sentimental approach and has always rejected any direct affection. This is most effectively shown when the prota manages to break off their betrothal (around chapter 700) and they travel to different corners. At that stage he never stopped thinking about her (on her lips, yes they kissed) and denying any advances from other women with the excuse that he has a fiancée.
    Curiosity for Jiang Qing'e fans:

Fourth, the "Resonance" world system is well done, managing to bring beautiful combat and interesting scenes to the work. Even the MC "cheat"

Fifth, the plot. The plot is still not very clear, there are still many hidden secrets that the prota did not dig, but there are clues. Even so, I never found this work boring, simply because it is simple but well done. Remembering that in the beginning the development of the work is slower (600 chapters and it hasn't even reached the "General" status). But after finishing the Xia Kingdom saga everything starts to get into a better power up rhythm.

Conclusion: I really recommend this work, it's almost a must read, really a fun work, but please be patient in the beginning, because the prota is still weak and his cautious personality doesn't allow him to be too daring in the beginning (that's the reason of many find him a simp). Remember that this all gets better when he gets stronger.

    Grade: 9/10

Note: There is NO HAREM, that alone should be enough for you to read.

I agree... Even so, 90% of the time the harem ruins the story with its repetitive moments, dense MCs and empty, personalityless secondary characters.

If creating a good harem was easy there would be many, but currently a harem is synonymous with a romance with a weak and shallow plot.
