The royal bastard of House Vasquer, Argrave, has changed after his stay studying magic at the Tower of the Gray Owl. The sickly man’s awkward posture and cruel behavior have been replaced with a neat dignity and acerbic wit. His listless life has found a path of undeniable purpose. Most come away thinking he seems to know too many details about too much. Few can claim to know his motives or his goals.

Behind the scenes, though, the primary contributor for an open-world RPG’s wiki battles existential dread and things far beyond his ken as he struggles to adapt to a grim, gothic fantasy world that he had the misfortune to claim as his favorite game. This is his tale.

#####What to expect from this story#####

This piece is a high-fantasy style story, featuring many of the species and surroundings one might expect to find in such a world. The cultures are original and well-developed, with the primary setting being a European-style feudal society. Warfare, fell beasts, and natural disasters are commonplace in Berendar, and take the center of many plots. The protagonist is a smooth-talker, but the world does not exist for him; he must struggle to gain power.

Thus far, I'm up to ch 304. This book is like a magical/cultivator Game of Thrones.

The review by Bigrand was excellent.

I have little to add to his review, but note only the quality of the writing. It is every bit as good as any published work on hardcover. To those of us accustomed to the generally poor writing quality of webnovels, it is a godsend.

I found the MC and his sense of humor likable, and he is no clown. He is a normal balanced person who behaves how most people would act given magical ability - seeks to help rather than harm people, but feels guilty if he cannot. There is no harem, but a female lead and a decently written romance.

The side characters are deep, they have their own motivations and histories, and do not simply fall over the MC just because. They are who they are, first and foremost.

I found the plot interesting and immersive. The worldbuilding is vast, and each area descriptive and different from another with their own characters, groups, and so forth. The world reacts and is engaged by both the events at large, and of the MC himself.

A lot of these comments are probably written by twelve-year-olds that are stuck with second grade reading comprehension. This novel is a well-written and enjoyable read. While it may not be a masterpiece, I believe it is one of the best novels on RoyalRoad.

The novel follows the journey of a wiki moderator for an open-world RPG who suddenly finds himself transmigrated into this fantasy world as Argrave, a royal bastard that's also a horrible human being. Argrave must fight against a world-ending calamity. With his life on the line, He is forced into unwanted heroism as he sets his objective to resolve the different conflicts that are caused by this calamity, and unite the world for survival.

What sets this novel apart from others in its genre is that the world is not overrun with incoherent RPG elements, and there aren't stats or game system or anything like that, there are no easily-obtained miracle techniques, spells or whatever that makes the protagonist the strongest or anything like that. The author has maintained a good balance between the different aspects of the power system, and it feels pretty balanced between effort and rewards.

However, the book is not flawless. Despite the portrayal of a harsh world, the characters do not suffer any major tragedies that have not already befallen them before they met the main character. The protagonist's personality can be annoying to some readers due to his tendency to joke a lot, even in awkward moments. He has vast knowledge of the world and because of it he doesn't mind letting people know he basically knows them every single detail of them, which can be annoying to some people (He doesn't reveal everything, and he chooses well the people he his secrets to given that he knows their personality and if they are prone to betraying him or something).

The world-building is fantastic, with a well-explained setting that does not overwhelm readers with excessive detail. It reminds me of Skyrim. The supporting characters are well-developed with their own objectives, desires, beliefs, and pasts that make them distinct from the main character and feel that they aren't just there to be slaves of the protagonist.

As for the romance in the novel, it is not excessively portrayed, and the relationship between the lovers is healthy and wholesome. Although the reasons for their falling in love are not really well explained, the romance does not feel cringe-worthy or forced though.

for those who like that style this could be a good novel, nothing spectacular but good, really, nothing that stands out, the secondary characters are as deep as a goldfish bowl, the world building is very good, but nothing innovative, but unfortunately the protagonist suffers from a severe hero syndrome, seriously, it gets annoying at times, he has knowledge about almost everything in that world, be it future/past events, location of op items or how to obtain magical knowledge, but he insists on " saving the world", he thinks that's why he reincarnated there, I'm sorry but in my view this is a little irritating, even childish, if I were in his situation, I wouldn't give a shit about the world, in fact I would hide, and let the invading god and the heroes kill each other, while I'm way off watching and eating popcorn, and when it's all over and there's only ashes left, I'll go out and finish off what's left and rebuild the rest of my way.

I dont even mind his savior complex, perhaps he was send there to save the world, who knows?

The problem is his overactive conscience, knowing whats coming he dont consider the big picture and want to save every single person he meet. If he fail anyone then he's wallow in guilt forever, he made a stupid mistake in decision once which caused alittle inconvinence, nobody even died but now he cant stop beating himself up and he cant make decision without getting approval from his companion, one of whom is a empath so he cant even use heavy hand on enemies lest it might make her unhappy. ugh

such an amazing novel gone to shitter.
