Police cars surrounded the hotel, disrupting the festive atmosphere of singing and dancing inside.
Lin Wuyang gazed sternly at the hall, with an instinctive feeling that something was amiss.
Though it hadn’t escalated to a full-fledged disturbance, the overall atmosphere seemed lax and conducive to devolving into chaos, especially considering that some individuals inside appeared to be disoriented and fanatical, displaying abnormal behavior.
However, it was hard to make such claims openly. There was an official inside the hall who was reprimanding everyone, “Which department are you from? Disrupting the normal operation of a hotel, damaging the environment for foreign investment. Do you know the nature of this event?”
Lin Wuyang signaled his subordinates to search for any prohibited substances discreetly, and he responded with a smile, “We received reports from the public, and we’re obligated to respond. Mr. Zhang, please understand the difficulties we all face. It’s past midnight, and who wants to come out on such a cold night? Everyone must be feeling frustrated, right?”
Secretary-General Zhang hesitated for a moment, secretly thinking that the report was probably made by that internet celebrity.
However, the unexpected police intervention effectively halted the evening’s party. The innate fear of the police kicked in, and with a group of officers swarming in to inspect, many people’s psychological states, which had been mildly affected, suddenly returned to normal.
Some felt it was time to leave. This included Secretary Zhang himself, who thought the party had gone a bit too far tonight and wasn’t as dignified as it should have been.
He quickly said, “Deal with these lawbreakers who waste police resources and make false reports!”
Secretary Zhang felt somewhat relieved, thinking he’d taken a small revenge.
One of his subordinates discreetly signaled to Lin Wuyang that they hadn’t found any drugs. Lin Wuyang nodded subtly and said, “Mr. Zhang, considering the late hour and the presence of students in this establishment, along with the fact that we haven’t had any recent COVID-19 cases in Nanjiang…”
Secretary Zhang’s heart skipped a beat, and he immediately said, “Alright, let’s wrap things up.”
The “Foreign Investment Charity Ball” concluded somewhat anticlimactically, and the crowd was dispersed. Secretary Zhang and Robin left first, while Lin Wuyang watched the young men and women each board their rideshare cars. He sighed in relief.
Chu Ge was indeed not being hasty; he arrived at the right time. If he hadn’t come, there could have been real issues.
Lin Wuyang headed to the back door of the hotel and saw Chu Ge and Gu Ruoyan standing side by side.
He was momentarily taken aback, “President Gu?”
Gu Ruoyan extended her hand as a gesture and said, “Director Lin, or should I say Chief Lin? Nice to see you again. What happens next requires your cooperation.”
Lin Wuyang shook her hand and said, “Of course. No need for formal titles.”
He turned to Chu Ge, somewhat exasperated, and asked, “Isn’t your report a bit early? Nothing had happened yet. If it weren’t for my experience, I might not have handled this official so well. I’d have walked away with a bruised ego and a lesson.”
Chu Ge chuckled, “You taught me that we should prevent tragedies from happening, not wait for them to occur and have people serve longer sentences.”
Lin Wuyang smiled and gave Chu Ge’s shoulder a playful pat, “You’re quite the person.”
Chu Ge asked, teasingly, “How do you deal with those who make false reports?”
Lin Wuyang replied with a straight face, “A meal is always necessary.”
They both laughed. Chu Ge then said, “How about some late-night snacks?”
“Sorry, I need to wrap up and head back. I can’t go for late-night snacks alone, and I’m not in the mood for it now. I need some rest. Why don’t you tell me what’s going on right now?” Lin Wuyang said, “My team didn’t find any contraband, but I noticed that some people’s expressions seemed like they had taken something. Is it related to some abilities?”
Chu Ge commended him, “You’re indeed an experienced professional.”
He then revealed, “That guy who left with Secretary Zhang is an expert in using music to mesmerize people. They plan to invest in a sea music-themed park in Nanjiang, which they’re marketing as something positive, but it could turn into a red-light district. I might need your help with that in the future.”
Lin Wuyang chuckled, “Providing me with a clear target to monitor. Isn’t that like handing me an opportunity for achievements?”
Chu Ge warned, “Hey, they have an official position, and they could accuse you of going off course when it comes to politics.”
Lin Wuyang laughed, “I’m not afraid of them! I’m a high-ranking official responsible for foreign security matters. If they invest and build their amusement park honestly, that’s fine. But if they cause trouble, I won’t let them off the hook!”
Gu Ruoyan contemplated the situation and added, “I’m wondering, is Robin only investing in Nanjiang, or is he using the pretext of a tour to set up operations in multiple places? If it’s the latter, it might be just a money-making scheme. But if he’s touring multiple places and only doing this in Nanjiang, what’s he up to?”
Chu Ge had a sudden realization.
Multiple groups had targeted Nanjiang recently, believing that something was amiss in the area. Upon closer scrutiny, these groups were all connected to the Mi Xiaolin conglomerate, and behind Mi Xiaolin was a music industry boss.
Did the failures from before prompt this boss to personally intervene in Nanjiang?
It was quite clear that Robin’s identity was on the verge of being exposed, so it had to be him!
But Nanjiang really had nothing to offer! This foreigner was quite stubborn.
Thinking along these lines, Chu Ge couldn’t help but feel a bit uncertain. Could there be something in Nanjiang after all? Otherwise, why would so many people persistently target it?
Chu Ge even briefly contemplated rushing into Robin’s hotel and apprehending him, but he knew all too well that he wouldn’t be able to do that without proper justification, especially given Robin’s foreigner status.

Tonight’s events had come to a temporary halt, and continuing to stay there was futile. Everyone dispersed, returning home to rest.
Although new developments were brewing in his mind, Chu Ge felt quite excited. Tonight was about more than just saving a young girl; in reality, he had saved many people.
With Lin Wuyang keeping watch, the situation would likely become very uncomfortable for those involved, especially since Lin Wuyang had a strong sense of justice and was eager to make a significant achievement. The other side might find themselves in a dire situation, much like Zhang Qiren, who had indignantly said, “Your classmate is keeping a close eye on me.”
Their plans for brainwashing hospitality had been completely foiled. Lin Wuyang would be ready to apprehend anyone who dared to proceed with such activities.

Chu Ge sent an emoji with a perplexed look, clearly puzzled.
“Chu Chu, get in here!” one of them exclaimed. “I heard that today, you were a hero, saved a damsel in distress, and taught that foreigner a lesson. You looked magnificent!”
Chu Ge: “Damn it. Are you guys clairvoyant or something? How did you know about it so fast?”
“Didn’t the girl write a short essay on Weibo? Isn’t that real? You just fought a foreigner a moment ago.”
“Brother Chu, you’re going to become famous again. You better not back down on this, now thousands are reposting, and there’s a crowd watching you.”
“I think you should stop writing books, it’s exhausting. You’re gaining more popularity by beating people up.”
