Chapter 197: Tong Bin

Under the midday sunlight shining vertically, the campus was becoming more vibrant as summer approached. From a distance, the chirping of cicadas could be heard from the tall trees.

Tong Bin led a group of followers, strolling casually on the cement road leading to the cafeteria. On both sides of this road were several small individual storage rooms.

"Boss, do we really have to take the main road at this time?"

"Is there a problem?"

The dazzling sunlight made Tong Bin squint his eyes, and he slowly walked at the forefront of the group.

"Isn't it telling others that we are here?"

"What do you suggest then?"

"Shouldn't we sneak through the grass on the side and catch them off guard?"

"Who told you I intend to attack them?" Tong Bin replied.

"Huh?"

"I'm not always resorting to violence. That's too low. We are civilized people, so negotiation should come first. Besides, everyone is a resource now, and it would be a waste if they die easily."

As Tong Bin spoke, he no longer appeared like the angry and aggressive person he was back in Qingbei Base. If you observed closely, you could even notice a touch of elegance in his temperament.

"No wonder Boss never fights with others, but people are still afraid of you."

"Has Song Yu been behaving lately?" Tong Bin ignored the flattery from his subordinate and turned to ask another person beside him.

"He goes to greet the principal every day, then goes out on missions, hunting, not much different from before."

"He's indeed a composed person. Truly admirable," Tong Bin chuckled and then asked, "What about Xia Qing?"

"She's the same, even more low-key than before. She hasn't left her room in these past few days."

"It seems like while I'm busy fighting for power, those two are both unpredictable masters." Tong Bin laughed heartily.

"Boss, we're almost there."

"Which one is it?"

Tong Bin, who rarely went on missions himself, roughly identified the target location for today through the descriptions of others.

"Yes, that one."

"The power of those hand grenades is really significant."

"Yes, we suffered losses from those things at the First Middle School last time. It seems those people made a hole in the door and threw bombs from above."

"It's quite interesting," Tong Bin chuckled, then turned to a tall and thin boy behind him, asking, "Are you sure you can deal with the hand grenades?"

The boy nodded, saying, "If the description of those grenades is accurate, there aren't many steel beads inside them. My abilities are more than enough to handle them."

"That's good."

Tong Bin nodded and continued, "In a little while, we'll be within their range. If they have someone on high ground keeping watch, they'll probably strike first..."

However, before Tong Bin could finish his sentence, something happened.

An object from a high place flew gracefully in a parabolic trajectory.

Because it was launched from such a height and at such speed, hardly anyone in the group noticed it.

Tong Bin instantly felt everything around him slowing down. He confidently raised his head and shouted loudly:

"Watch out!"

The others were startled awake by his warning.

The tall and thin boy shouted loudly, holding his palms up like lifting a cauldron, extending his arms upward.

Almost in an instant, a transparent air shield with a reflective sheen appeared above them.

The object that was flying towards them was a large spear.

Terrifyingly large.

A sense of unease surged within him as Tong Bin finally saw it clearly.

The spear was about to hit the air shield.

Tong Bin reminded again, "Be careful."

The tall and thin boy subconsciously exerted more force.

The air shield appeared visibly thicker.

In the blink of an eye, the spear's tip struck the air shield with force.

It was expected to pierce right through, but the massive spear seemed to have hit an invisible wall, stopping abruptly.

And then, it exploded violently.

Flames burst, and steel beads scattered.

The air shield's strength was astonishing. The explosion from the spear barely affected it, and everyone felt as if a firework had gone off above their heads.

However, this kind of spear was specially made by Chen Mu. The number and size of steel beads inside exceeded the usual standard, and the explosive power was enhanced due to the impact force.

The air shield blocked the explosion of the spear.

But it couldn't stop the scattered steel beads.

Although most of the steel beads were deflected and weakened by the defense shield, three or five of them still shot towards the crowd.

Since they were moving so fast, nobody could clearly see the path of the steel beads; they could only instinctively raise their hands to protect their heads.

Except for Tong Bin.

He continued to look up at the sky.

In the next moment, the few stray steel beads suddenly exploded, creating a burst of metallic dust that quickly dispersed in the air.

After a few seconds, the group gradually recovered, but unfortunately, no one saw what had just happened. They believed they had fortunately not been hit by the steel beads.

"I'm sorry, Boss!" The tall and thin boy felt guilty.

"It's not your fault." Tong Bin looked up at the highest point of the storage room's wooden door and said, "It seems they have developed new weapons. Be more careful next time."

"I won't make the same mistake again."

Before he finished speaking, two more stone spears shot their way.

This time, the tall and thin boy reacted without Tong Bin's reminder. The air shield shone as brightly as before.

"Boom! Boom!"

Two explosions resounded, but no steel beads came in this time.

Tong Bin nodded in satisfaction and asked, "How much longer can you hold on?"

"At this level, probably a dozen more spears, this thing is much more powerful than we imagined," the tall and thin boy admitted, though he seemed somewhat reluctant to do so.

"A dozen more will be enough."

"But what if they have more?"

"You don't need to worry about what comes after. Focus on what's in front of you."

Before Tong Bin finished speaking, more spears were thrown again.

However, this time, they missed their target.

The spears landed on the ground not far from them, and even though steel beads still flew towards them after the explosion, their force was far weaker, easily blocked by the air shield.

"If they're all like this, that's fine," the tall and thin boy laughed.

Tong Bin also smiled, "It seems their precision guidance technology is not yet up to par."

"Boss, what do we do next? We can't just keep taking hits. Who knows how much ammunition they have?" The tall and thin boy asked.

Before he finished speaking, more projectiles were flying their way, including spherical explosive devices, which were quite intimidating in size.

However, out of the dozen or so projectiles, only half directly hit the air shield, making the tall and thin boy feel considerably more at ease.

Tong Bin observed the distance, then turned to wave to a boy who was accompanying them and said, "Speak on my behalf."

A few seconds later, a loud voice rang out at the entrance of the storage room:

"Chen Mu, let's have a talk. What do you say?"
