Chapter 272

Bai Liu was able to sit up the next day, which the doctors found incredible.

But before they could investigate the reasons for this incredible speed of recovery, Bai Liu was taken over, bed and all, by the domestic observatory.

Bai Liu is now sitting quietly on an observation post bed, looking sideways out the window at the howling snow and wind, with a dozing Du Sanying lying beside him.

The door was knocked lightly.

“Mr Bai Liu, can we come in?”

Du Sanying jolted out of his sleep, wiped the saliva from the corner of his mouth and looked over at Bai Liu in his hospital bed.

Bai Liu didn’t turn around, still looking out the window: “Come in.”

The door was thrown open, and in came the five escorts and the chief of the observation post, standing respectfully at the end of Bai Liu’s hospital bed, heads bowed.

“You helped us solve the trouble with the heretic that was escorted this time.”

Bai Liu gave a dispensable hum, saying faintly, “I didn’t do anything.”

“Mr. Bai, you have done a very worthy thing.” The station manager looked up with a pleased face.

“I heard before that the Heretic Authority was moving the original plant that caused the formation of the dried-leaf rose to the Antarctic for preservation. I didn’t agree, but since no way has been found to destroy the original rose plant, it had to be moved to this side of the world, where it is sparsely populated.”

The station manager breathed a long sigh of relief, “It’s good that you found a way to destroy it in time to avoid the other researchers at the observatory being confused by the rose and developing the desire to grab it.”

Bai Liu finally turned his head towards the men and suddenly he laughed softly, slowly repeating the station manager’s words, “What was transported to the South Pole was the original plant of the roses?”

The station manager was stunned: “…… Yes.”

“So.” Bai Liu murmured softly to himself, “Your memories of it have been altered and changed to the rose plant……”

“…… I’m the only one who remembers him dead, I’m the only one who remembers him alive.”

Bai Liu turned his head again, nodded to indicate that he understood the situation, and then stopped talking.

All the others remember is the withering of an insignificant and fragrant rose, only he remembers that it was his God who died.

The five escorts looked at each other, but finally bowed and thanked Bai Liu for saving them from a near-crash on the plane, before saying goodbye and leaving Bai Liu to get some rest.

The captain left last, and as he was about to close the door he turned his head to look at the pale Bai Liu in the hospital bed. Somehow, his mind went back to what this man had said to him on the plane.

[You have people you want to save, and I have a monster I want to save.]

At that moment Bai Liu’s eyes were so sincere. In all his time as a member of the Heresy Authority, the captain had taken in many high-risk heretics, large and small, and he had never seen such a moving look in the eyes of a monster.

Despite the fact that this living heretic had only given such a look to save a sinfully seductive rose, he could not help but be moved by it at that moment.

That rose might have been Bai Liu’s equivalent of a friend, his lover, his family, everything he tried to save on the plane even if he had to cut himself into four pieces.

But in the end he saved the people he wanted to save, while Bai Liu did not save the rose he wanted to save.

The captain felt a deep sense of regret for some reason and after a moment’s silence, he spoke.

“I have briefed Captain Su on what happened when you helped us, and he said he would apply to his superiors to consider downgrading your risk level to allow you greater freedom of movement.”

“All four clasps on your body were removed for you during the transfer to the domestic observatory, and the Third Branch will not do anything to spy on you until the new downgrading judgement about you comes out.”

“Thank you for saving us, and the people over here.” The captain opened his mouth, “……about the rose, I’m sorry.”

Bai Liu did not reply to any of his words as he closed the door behind him with a slight bow of farewell.

When they had left, Bai Liu quickly ripped out the IV tube on the back of his hand and ordered, to Du Sanying’s great surprise, “Go and lock the door. Don’t let any normal people in. Pack up and get ready to go into the game.”

Du Sanying watched with trepidation as blood dripped unceasingly from the back of Bai Liu’s hand, unable to resist the urge to whisper, “The doctor said you were given an anticoagulant to prevent blood clots from forming, and told you not to walk around casually, because it will bleed nonstop…..”

Bai Liu glanced over at him, and Du Sanying shrank back as he obediently locked the door behind him.

“Go into the game. Liu Jiayi and the others should be waiting for me in the game.” Bai Liu told Du Sanying, “Liu Jiayi has a better treatment drug on hand for me than anticoagulants.”

Du Sanying asked, dumbfounded, “What kind of drugs?”

Bai Liu: “An antidote.”

In-game.

Outside the small guild building of the Wandering Circus, Liu Jiayi walked around anxiously. Mu Sicheng crouched in the doorway with an empty look on his face, his hands on his knees.

Mu Ke was clinging motionlessly to the door with his arms crossed, his head bowed and his expression unreadable.

Tang Erda stood next to the bin with a lit cigarette in his mouth, playing with the gun in his hand somewhat distractedly, moving so fast that the naked eye could only see afterimages.

Unloaded, assembled, ammo removed and reloaded, magazine and chamber bumping into each other.

…… In all the many world lines since, he never dreamed that Bai Liu would get into trouble to save the people of the Heresy Handling Bureau.

His heart dissected …… bleeding profusely, collapsed in the freezing snow being held by Du Sanying for a little over half an hour before finding rescue, his clothes soaked with the blood seeping out……

Tang Erda had never seen such a…… miserable Bai Liu.

He has always been omnipotent and omnipresent, the chosen sole believer of the evil gods, and the world exists to indulge his playfulness.

But this time the gods…… who have always favoured Bai Liu, seemed to be punishing him severely because this time Bai Liu wouldn’t follow the trajectory he was designed to follow.

Tang Erda was deep in thought when Mu Sicheng interrupted him with a shout: “Bai Liu!”

Everyone’s eyes instantly swished over.

Bai Liu, dressed in a very baggy hospital gown, blood still dripping from his hands, followed by a sneaky man. He looked at them levelly and walked straight towards the guild entrance.

Mu Ke put his hands down, Mu Sicheng jumped up, Liu Jiayi stopped walking around, and Tang Erda put his gun away.

He doesn’t look good, but after all this time on tenterhooks, this guy finally shows up!

As soon as Bai Liu walked over, Mu Ke handed him a bandage and asked Bai Liu to wrap it around his arm.

Bai Liu nodded and took it and as he wound his way inside, beginning to order, “I still have wounds. You all know my condition from Du Sanying, they are not difficult to deal with.”

“Wait for a less difficult game in the game pool. After entering, Liu Jiayi will use her skill to heal my wounds.”

Liu Jiayi nodded: “Understood.”

Bai Liu looked to Mu Ke at his side: “Is Wang Shun in the guild?”

Mu Ke nodded his head.

Bai Liu turned and looked to Du Sanying, who had been hiding behind him the whole way: “Have Wang Shun give Du Sanying a lesson on the basics of the game. Count of his games for me, and have Wang Shun set aside a time slot each week to give Du Sanying a lesson on the same thing –because Du Sanying will forget.”

“By the way, remind Wang Shun not to have too much contact, especially emotionally, when teaching Du Sanying.” Bai Liu simply reminds, “Du Sanying’s luck value will affect him.”

“Mu Ke, you talk to Du Sanying about the team and the league, and take him through a level 1 game or two to get used to it first.”

“Understood.” Mu Ke led the way and left with Du Sanying, “Come with me.”

Du Sanying glanced hesitantly at Bai Liu and only after receiving a nod of approval did he trot off after Mu Ke.

“Mu Sicheng.” Bai Liu turned his head to look at him, “There is something for you.”

Mu Sicheng asked with a straight face, “What is it?”

“Because of something …… Killer Sequence Spades did, my usual weapons and props were partially cleared by him, but the league needs those things, so I needed better replacements.”

“-I personally think that the cost should be borne by Killer Sequence.” Bai Liu raised his eyes, “They were the number one ranked guild last year, they must have a pretty good stock of props this year.”

“Let Charles communicate first. If the other party is willing to sell, buy it. If not……”

Bai Liu glanced down at Mu Sicheng’s monkey paw: “Do you understand what I mean?”

Mu Sicheng showed his teeth and grinned as he rubbed his wrist, “Got it, just stomping around and besieging their guild’s master inventory, right?”

Bai Liu nodded his head.

Mu Sicheng gave the OK gesture and left.

Bai Liu looked at Tang Erda: “You and Jiayi will come into the game with me, I’m not in the right state to go into the game alone with Jiayi. I’ll be surrounded and need strong support.”

At this, Tang Erda’s tense nerves relaxed and he nodded, “Naturally. Shall we go into the game pool now?”

Bai Liu nodded his head.

Liu Jiayi was also relieved, as she was quite afraid that Bai Liu would try to be a hero and enter the game alone with her.

He looked too weak now.

But it has to be said that even with Bai Liu’s haggard appearance, the moment this guy showed up, the whole guild was instantly up and running, and everyone’s hearts were at ease.

What a natural tactician, so much control over the field……

Liu Jiayi stole a glance at Bai Liu’s chest.

— Bai Liu looked calm and collected as he deployed the guild. It did not look like he had suffered a huge psychological trauma at all, strong enough that the image of him being brought out the game unconscious was already blurred……

Who on earth was so capable of breaking Bai Liu’s heart?

Only Spades could have hurt Bai Liu in the last round, but that guy doesn’t look like he’s capable of inflicting psychological damage on Bai Liu with his level of natural dumbness……

But with Bai Liu looking like he’s going to target the Killer Sequence and Spades as soon as he comes online, it does feel like he’s been pissed off by Spades……

So what did Spades do to piss off Bai Liu, the all-time cool-headed profit-seeker?

Liu Jiayi stroked her chin in contemplation, curious as she had never been before.

——

Killer Sequence Guild Lounge.

Spades sat with his head bowed on one side of the sofa. Sitting on the opposite sofa, holding onto his knees, was The Judge of Defying Gods who was painfully reprimanding him.

“Look at you, I’m not forbidding you to play the game alone. It’s normal for you to clash with other players if you want to win. Everyone is young and ignorant and wants to be number one in everything, and as your tactician, it’s not impossible for me to understand.”

The Judge of Defying Gods was so angry that he waved his hand, his voice soaring, “-but how can you go and crush the hearts of other kids, bah no, other players?!”

“It’s just a game pool, it’s not even the league!!! Is it necessary! Ah!”

The Judge of Defying Gods gave a sullen slap on his thigh, “Spades, is this the right thing for you to do?!”

Spades clutched his whip, crossed his arms and leaned back on the sofa, nodding his head a little, as if to admit his mistake.

The Judge of Defying Gods was filled with depression and had to lose half his frustration when he saw Spades’ rare and honest admission of guilt.

He softened his tone and advised, “Spades ah, it’s still support season. If you arrogantly bully people from smaller guilds like this and it gets out, it will affect the guild’s support rate. There are not many members in the Killer Sequence already and the image is scary now, many ordinary players are not willing to support us.”

“Tell you what, how about we bring something to the door and apologise to people, shake hands and pretend it never happened?”

Spades was still nodding, his head almost down to his chest.

The Judge of Defying Gods looked surprised: “Spades, you’ve agreed! You can’t go back on your word!”

One of the team members next to him felt something was wrong and cautiously went up and took a look at Spades.

This member of the team was silent for a long time before turning his head to look at the Judge of Defying Gods: “Judge, Spades is asleep.”

Judge: “……”

The Judge of Defying Gods rolled up his sleeves and snarled at Spades: “axksaj– Spades– you askjhdc– Sooner or later you’ll be on your knees in front of this man you bullied begging for forgiveness! You stupid bastard!”

The other players rushed forward to stop the erupting Judge.

“Take it easy, take it easy! We have to keep him to play the game!”

“It’s not the first day he’s slept through a meeting!”

“Yes, yes, yes, he’ll just have to lose three games as a rule! It’s painful for Spades to lose a game! It hurts more than killing him!”

Spades, half asleep, opened his eyes slightly and heard Judge take a deep breath as he ordered, “Okay, as per usual, as Spades was sleeping and dawdling in the meeting, the penalty is that he will be forced to lose the next three games.”

“For the next three games the whole team together will watch over Spades and forbid him to take any victory from us, or the enemy. This is his punishment, but also a test and training for us, you hear me!”

The whole team was in high spirits: “I hear you!”

Spades, who had just woken up slowly: “?”

Why is he being punished again? Didn’t you just do that?
