One of the best examples of japanese trash light novel. There's an actual line in this book about how "slaves really are the best." The MC even says it sincerely, Jesus Christ! This one is really, really, really bad!

The good guy is a cardboard OP MC.
The bad guy is a cardboard trash villain.
The characters are "let's worship the MC" vanilla cg generated side characters.
The world is not even "medieval but with adventurer's guild. It's empty then it turns into "medieval but with adventurer's guild." (well not sure if there will be an adventurer's guild.

This thing is trash, it's not even fun trash, this is top 5 worst japanese light novel and remains pretty low even when LNs from all over are included.

Just waste of time garbage author fantasy. NOT power fantasy but author fantasy.

Sword Princess Altina is one of the BEST books I've read (that includes published ones). It's both accessible, informative, and entertaining. The biggest criticism I have for it is that it takes 3 books before it gets up to speed but Lord of the Mysteries also took its time.

Overlord is probably the best "misunderstood" comedy in existence.

Jobless Reincarnation managed to not only be one of the first in the isekai genre, but also managed to stay as one of the best, telling a story of redemption from birth to death. A story of becoming human that took a lifetime.

Cooking with wild game despite its obvious fault where almost everyone is an eye-candy is one of the only light novel that actually delves into culture clash where the main catalyst is food of all things! The MC made burger patties because the elderly in the other world can't eat anymore due to the meat being too tough but the men weren't pleased with the burger patties. Instead of treating it as some "men that aren't the MC hurr durr dum dum" they were antagonists for that plot but they were treated with respect. Not feeling the chewiness of the food went against their culture that literally relied on strength in order to survive, of course they'll have a comment and that was tackled well.

You're right that this is one of the worst light novels in existence, but dude, you gotta open your horizons, "a hentai or made for 13 year old boys"? Sword Princess Altina is the only novel I've seen where pacifism is displayed not in aversion to war or violence but in "cooperate with the majority towards peace or die in bloodshed as we divide everything you own". Every political ideology is given enough time to show their merit and it removes the lines of black and white.

      Dude.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: one of the best isekai ever written, and if a translation decision was changed to reflect the thoughts of the author, the first book would be even better. The author supposedly read over 50 books just to research the story she'll write, and it shows. The world building in Bookworm is top tier.

How a realist hero rebuilt the kingdom: a refreshing take on isekai where the mc is not OP and you can actually see him manage his kingdom in a world where he's not the only one that's competent.

Otherside picnic: accessible horror based on Japanese internet horror lore. Imaginative and creepy, how is it hentai or made for 13 year old boys?

Reincarnated as a slime: a very fun fantasy, action, adventure romp done very well and beloved by fans all over the world.

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear: of ALL the mediocre books, this is the best.

Youjo Senki (saga of tanya the evil): one of the best military/political books in all of light novel-dom. The characters are competent and have actual personalities and placed in situations where they can't just waltz in, do a faceslap, then survive. The battles and battlefields both in martial and political are well thought-out and actually paints a world for you unlike most works of web novels where you have to imagine everything yourself.

The devil is a part timer: a reverse isekai where one of the most powerful entities in their world escaped to our world and had to become a McDonald's employee, and he f#cking rocks at it. A story of both redemption and self-introspection. Funny af too.

Konosuba: well this one may be written for 13 year old kids, but by god is it funny! An isekai that parodies isekai all the while embracing everything that makes it great.

Spice and wolf: it may not be for me, but even someone who doesn't like this genre managed to read up to 4 books of it. People who like world building, fantasy, and romance, should check out this story about a Wise wolf god and a merchant with a soul perfectly spiced for the devil's taking.

Alderamin On The Sky: one of the rare military/tactic light novels where the mc is a tactician. there's an anime, it's good, check this one out. Belonging to a corrupt empire embroiled in war, winning is easy, but what about losing just enough that it brings about permanent positive change while not losing everything that makes the empire's people great? That's the MC's challenge and it's one I've never seen before.

I hope people can stop hating idiotically on Japanese light novels. Every niche have criticisms, celebrated works, and hidden gems. People needlessly hating miss out on good content.

what a ridiculous novel. Its logically flawed along with so many reasons. For one, the MC portrays to be a nice guy who likes to make people smile and as someone who grew up in a free country(assuming he did come from japan), he should have had that sense of justice for the other slave being maltreated or at the very least a show of empathy. Another one is the concept of eternal slaves, i mean really? eternal slaves? thats how desperate the author is for wanting slaves. Not to mention every event that goes lack a sense of realism. I like fantasy novels and when I read something like this wjo writes like a child with every events amd decision its very repulsive. FOR FANTASY READERS DONT READ THIS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Enjoyed the story as a whole from start to finish, Some of the interesting things were that not all of his subjects wanted the bustling city vibe and opted to have a quieter life. That alone gave me the understanding of the creativity the author had to help the store feel me realistic. Not everyone fits the mold they are in and want to change. I would have liked it if he had discover a way to have the dark elves return to their former state to serve other people and that those would be with his stewards of each city he ruled. Other than that, a solid read for first time readers.
