Chapter 2268: Unbroken Curse

The ancient skeleton let out a sigh and turned his skull to stare at Sunny. He remained silent for a while, then said neutrally:

“As to your original question, Sacred beings are called Spirits because that is what they are. They are spirits of places, of concepts, of laws... well, in a way. Actually, the word ‘daemon’ meant the same thing, originally. Because daemons were the first Sacred beings, and therefore the first Spirits."

Sunny raised an eyebrow.

“What? Weren't daemons Divine?"

Eurys nodded.

“Oh, they were. However, they were not born Divine. At the dawn of the Age of Gods, the seven newborn daemons were merely Sacred. They became Divine swiftly, though, as if it was in their very nature. Weaver was the first, and Nether was the last. Quite fitting.”

As he said those words, a few sparks of light drifted above Sunny, forcing him to grimace.

His soul was still being destroyed by the Shadow Realm.

Therefore, he did not have much more time to waste.

Raising from his chair, Sunny glanced at Eurys and asked:

“I guess you won't simply tell me all about the daemons, the gods, the Doom War, the Nine... and most of all, about Weaver?"

The ancient skeleton chuckled.

"I think I already told you enough, no?"

Sunny grimaced, then nodded briefly.

"Prepare to die, then."

He hesitated for a few moments, then added in a less resolute voice:

“Or... I don't know. Prepare to be prepared to die? I am not sure that I can actually kill you just yet."

The ancient skeleton stared at him with a grin.

“There is only one way to find out, is there not?"

Sunny remained motionless for a while, collecting himself.

Then, he reached into the shadows and manifested them into the shape of a fearsome black odachi. Since his essence was Supreme now, the shadow sword he had created was akin to a Supreme weapon, as well — and a tremendously lethal Supreme weapon, at that, considering that it had been created from the ancient darkness of the Shadow Realm.

Sunny studied Eurys for a few moments. Killing an undying skeleton was not a straightforward task. After all, Eurys did not have a beating heart or a functioning brain that could be destroyed. He could not bleed to death or succumb to debilitating wounds. In fact, he did not even seem to possess a soul — at least not one that Sunny could see or sense.

Even his shadow was no different from the shadows cast by inanimate objects.

Their surroundings were dark, but the distant light of a vast essence storm still reached them. So, the shadow of the ancient skeleton could just barely be seen, laying on the black dust beneath him.

Taking a deep breath, Sunny raised his odachi and shaped his will into a slaying blade.

Then, he thrust his sword down, imbuing it with tyrannical killing intent — as lethal and deadly a strike as he could muster. The blade of the odachi slid between the skeleton’s ribs, passed through where his heart would have been, and plunged into the shadow below.

A powerful gust of wind rose above the graveyard of serpents, and the towering pillars of ancient bones groaned, a few of them toppling thunderously somewhere in the distance.

A cloud of dust rose into the air.

By the time the dust settled, Eurys was laying motionlessly on the ground, staring at Sunny with lifeless, empty eyes sockets. A few seconds later, he said:

“Well... that was disappointing.”

Sunny clicked his tongue.

“Damnation. Hey... it's not me, it's you! I am not bad at killing things, you are just too damn hard to kill. Can you even be killed?"

Eurys let out a long sigh.

“It should be possible. I guess you are not powerful enough to break Shadow God's curse yet, boy.”

Sunny remained silent for a bit, then dismissed the black odachi and took a step back.

"Then I'll get stronger. I am relatively new to being Supreme... maybe things will be different when I learn to wield my power better."

He hesitated, then asked neutrally:

“You are not in a hurry, are you?"

Eurys did not answer immediately. Eventually, he laughed.

“Well, you saw those unfortunate fellows in the White Desert. They have been fighting each other for thousands of years already, and are not going to stop anytime soon. However... while they bear the same curse as me, they are different from me. That is because they have long lost themselves, turning into mindless husks."

His laughter dimmed.

"I, on the other hand, have managed to preserve most of myself intact. Not through sheer willpower or because I am special, though — simply because I was nailed to that damn tree before the battle ended. It was the tree that kept me whole. Now that I am free, however, I'll become a mindless beast just like the rest of them soon. My, oh my! I hoped to die before that happens."

Sunny stared at him somberly for a little while.

“How much time do you have left?"

Eurys shrugged and responded nonchalantly:

“More than your world has left, I'd say.”

Sunny nodded.

“Then I'll come back to try and kill you when I am stronger. Perhaps once I become a Spirit, maybe sooner.”

As he dismissed the Shadow Chair and turned around to leave, Eurys called out to him in a creaky voice:

"Didn't you hear what I said, boy? You have no chance of becoming a Spirit. It's impossible!"

Sunny grinned.

“I heard you well. But... says who? The world has changed a lot since your time, Eurys. And if it didn't change enough... why, then I'll just have to go and change it more."

A rat from the outskirts had become a king.

If something like that was possible, then why would becoming a god be any different?

Especially considering that his companion was none other than Changing Star.

Walking away, Sunny raised a hand and waved.

“I'll kill you soon, Eurys of the Nine!”

I have a feeling that Sunny doesn’t need to suffer for thousands of years just to become a Sacred.

Remember when he used the [Where is My Eye?] enchantment on Weaver’s Mask? That overwhelming flood of Fate-related information nearly fried his brain- and that was back when he was just an Awakened. Something similar happened again during his fight with the Corrupted Terror in LO49, even after he became a Master.

But here’s the thing: the solution has been right in front of us the whole time. It’s even part of the Weaver’s Lineage: [Mind Weave]. And we know where it might be: The Castle of Mirrors, home to the Daemon of Imagination.

What if [Mind Weave] is the key to shielding one's mind while gazing into the Tapestry of Fate?

Cassie once said she could no longer receive visions of the future because the strings of Fate around Sunny had been torn, as if someone had ripped his thread from the Tapestry entirely. His Fate was stolen and now, there is a gaping hole in the world.

But what if, after obtaining [Mind Weave], Sunny could safely use the Weaver’s Mask and it’s [Where is My Eye?] enchantment to learn how to weave his own fate? Not the entire thing from scratch but just enough to reconnect a single thread of Fate back to himself.

We already know the Nightmare Spell is linked to people’s fates. So, what if reconnecting even one thread allows Sunny to re-establish a connection to the Spell- just enough to enter a Nightmare Seed without triggering the [Shadow Bond]?

That would be his cheat code- his path to Sacred without becoming a slave again.

Actually, I don't think that sunny has to be careful of waking up the forgotten god due to his weaver's lineage.
Just think about it, weaver was the daemon of fate and he surely knew about the forgotten god problem.
As sunny said before, he didn't need to be careful about his time before the tomb of Ariel because he had his fate stolen.
So, as the daemon of fate weaver must have made counter measures.
If not then there was no need for him to create his lineage to begin with after doom war, the nightmare spell would've been enough and he could've simply died... I think that was also the reason weaver schemed to kill both the gods and the daemons.

That's why he obtained it in the first place, he's the only one who can use it without risking gathering indirect faith for the Forgotten God, a domain that doesn't need humans, his true name is [Lost from the Light] which means he'll be living behind the scenes of civilization and no one will know about him... etc., not to mention [Fated] which was deliberately leading him to the Weaver lineage, like a secret weapon being crafted in a conspiracy across history, time, and destiny to bring down the Forgotten God.

So, Let me spill few things out of my mind, correct me if I'm wrong.

'Gods' are Void beings, born from divinity. They are most harrowing kind of void beings according to eurys.

'Angels' are another race that exist in void. There might be 7 Main/Archangels and vast number of other Angels under their command, since everything is related to number 7 in SS universe. They might be the void beings against whom Gods and Daemons joined hands together.

'Unknowns', so far we don't know much about them. But from todays lore drop we could predict what is the name of this race - 'Devils/Demons'. They were born from corruption, just opposite to Gods. They also might be 7 in number, each representing 7 sins like pride, lust, greed etc. They might be the true source of fear and the reason behind sealing the void. Even Gods were no match for them.

Gods, Angels and Unknowns are all above the rankings. One powerful than the other, still they all are far more powerful than those beings that fall under ranking systems. Now,

'Daemons' were children of Forgotten/Dream God.

'Nine' were children of War God.

'Nephilim' were children of Sun God with profane void beings. Nephis has this attribute because she is carrier of Sun God's lineage.

'Shadowspawn' were simply creatures that were born in shadow realm. They were not children of Shadow God, they just shared Master-Slave relationship. There were also divine shadows.

'Dreamspawn' are creatures that are born and raised in Dream Realm. They might/might not be connected to Heart God. We will know more about them in future through Asterion.

As we can see, each God was capable enough to give birth to creatures that can rise to become a powerful being of sacred or divine ranks. All these children ganged-up against their creators and fought side by side in dooms war. At least, Daemons, Nine and Nephilim did. Don't know about Shadowspawns and Divine Shadows, if they could go against their master or not, most probably not.

In future we might also see childrens/creatures related to Beast God and Storm God. That bring up the question with whom 'Nothing/Other Creatures' are related? Are they related to any God or Void beings? Or a completely different race of nightmare creatures??

    Fu#k I wrote a God damn essay man 😬

When Eurys said this, he was addressing Sunny as the "Child of War". If all of the Nine have been children of War, he would have said that in plural meaning, not singular

Well, I did call it. The Vile Thieving Bird and the Tomb of Ariel will be key for his apotheosis. The real question is which path they will choose. The Spell should allow them to shortcut to divinity, but all shortcuts come at a price. I think a natural ascension wouldn't tie them closer to the Spell, thus allowing them to destroy its weave in the end, whereas if they ascend through the Spell, they'll likely become its new "guardians" of sorts, forever unable to destroy it lest they destroy their own source of power. But that's just a theory... a GAME theory.

For the next few days, Mordret lived the life of a human child. He experienced the heat of summer, the warmth of being cared for by a loving mother, the delight of playing with friends, and the excitement of learning letters with a tutor.

It was all fun, but he quickly grew bored.

'The other would have loved it, though.'

Feeling his mood turn dangerous at the thought, he chased it away.

Mordret was sincere when he told the kid that he never felt sad. But he was not completely emotionless. There were things he could feel: satisfaction, contentment, pleasure... anger, resentment, contempt...

    And hatred, of course.

And although he hated his traitorous father and Asterion, he hated the other the most

I feel like the "other" is Mordorith's other personality, and his flaw as well
His challenge to sovereignty would be to kill his other version (his flaw), thus defying the absolute law of flaws.

There's a passage in a chapter I still remember clearly, Mordorith was so angry that there was something alive inside him that wanted to come out to go berserk and cause a massacre, but he calmed it down, like calming a pet, or maybe a crazy, raging evil twin brother.
