Chapter 75: Jade Talisman

Chen Lin was looking at a flying sword. The material was a dark red color, and the hilt was very long, with a strange pattern on it, resembling black leaves.

He had seen similar patterns on treasures excavated from ancient ruins, and some people speculated that these patterns were the symbols of a small sect.

The vendor was a bald cultivator, who seemed to be using a concealment technique, making it impossible to discern his cultivation level.

The vendor looked at Chen Lin and nodded, "Yes, this is from an ancient ruin, a mid-quality item, with a slight flaw. If you want to buy it, I'll let it go for ten mid-quality spirit stones."

Chen Lin shook his head and put the sword back. Ten mid-quality spirit stones were too expensive, especially since the sword had a small crack.

Seeing Chen Lin's reaction, the vendor smiled and said, "Don't compare ancient spiritual treasures to modern ones, my friend. Ancient spiritual treasures usually have auxiliary effects. This flying sword, for example, can produce a soul-stirring sound when activated, which can greatly disrupt the enemy's mental state in battle."

"Really? It has such an effect?" Chen Lin asked, surprised. If it had attributes, the price would be quite reasonable.

He immediately picked up the sword again and infused it with his spiritual energy. The sword began to vibrate, emitting a humming sound. However, after waiting for a while, Chen Lin didn't feel any soul-stirring effect.

He stopped infusing his energy and looked at the vendor.

The vendor's expression remained unchanged, "I told you, this sword has a flaw. It needs to be repaired before it can unleash its full power. If it were complete, I wouldn't sell it for ten spirit stones!"

Chen Lin was speechless. He was annoyed and threw the sword back, deciding to check out other stalls.

Just then, the vendor called out to him, "If you're not interested in the flying sword, take a look at my other treasures. They're all from ancient ruins. I have a precious dagger, a defensive shield, and an Earth Escape Talisman. I can give you a good deal!"

"Earth Escape Talisman?" Chen Lin's eyes lit up, and he turned back around.

He had used an Earth Escape Talisman before and found it very useful. He had been looking for one, but couldn't find it.

"Where is the Earth Escapetalisman? I didn't see it on your stall. How can a talisman survive underground for so long?"

Chen Lin scanned the stall but didn't see any talismans. He glared at the vendor, thinking he was being deceived.

The vendor calmly picked up a yellow jade piece from the corner.

"Ah, here it is. I told you, ancient talismans were made of jade, not paper."

"A jade talisman?" Chen Lin was stunned. He had heard of such talismans but had never seen one.

But he immediately frowned, "Even if it's a real talisman, it's broken into pieces. Can it still be used?"

The jade piece was covered in cracks, and Chen Lin felt that it would shatter if he touched it.

The vendor seemed to be selling broken items, not treasures he had excavated himself.

The vendor explained, "It can definitely be used, but the effect might be reduced. Ancient cultivators' jade talismans are not one-time use only; they can be used multiple times. The cracks you see are not from being broken, but from being used many times."

Chen Lin sneered, not believing the vendor's words.

The goods on the stall had no quality guarantee, and the vendor was just trying to deceive customers. Chen Lin didn't dare to buy anything.

"Forget it, you can sell it to someone else!"

Chen Lin coldly threw out a sentence and stood up to leave.

"Three mid-quality spirit stones, just three mid-quality spirit stones, what do you think, friend?" the vendor called out.

"Two mid-quality spirit stones, friend, take it away!"

"One mid-quality spirit stone!"

"Buy one, get one free! Except for this jade talisman, you can choose another item, and I'll give you an unbeatable price! You won't regret it, I guarantee it!"

As Chen Lin was about to leave, the vendor suddenly became anxious and raised his voice.

Chen Lin's face turned black. This guy was really trying to rip him off!

He estimated that the vendor had probably collected broken items from ancient ruins and was now trying to sell them to unsuspecting customers.

He glanced around and saw that there were many stalls like this one, all selling low-quality items.

"How about ten low-quality spirit stones?" Chen Lin asked, picking up the jade talisman again. If he could buy it at a low price, it would be a good research material.

He had never researched ancient items before.

"Alright, since you're so sincere, let's call it a deal! Ten low-quality spirit stones it is!"

What a rip-off! Chen Lin couldn't believe the vendor's audacity.

He handed over the spirit stones, and the vendor gave him a sly look. Chen Lin took the jade talisman and turned to leave.

"Friend, aren't you going to choose another item? I can give you an even better deal!"

Chen Lin almost spat out blood, but he ignored the vendor and continued to browse other stalls.

He saw many strange and exotic items, all overpriced. He eventually chose a few items at a low price, suitable for his "production talent".

As someone with a "production talent", he should explore widely and might stumble upon something that would allow his talent to shine.

After buying some broken items, Chen Lin walked around the shop, but unfortunately, he didn't find any suitable talismans or recipes.

These kinds of inherited items were rare, and the materials were too expensive for him to work with.

Disappointed, Chen Lin left the market and headed back to his residence.

He decided that if the price of talismans didn't increase over time, he would prepare to leave.

Recently, there had been too many cultivators coming to this place, and taking the land route to Pingyang City would mean passing by Maple Leaf Lake ancient ruins.

There were too many people and eyes watching, and he might even encounter cultivators from Kaiyuan City. To avoid trouble, it was better to wait until the cultivators left after exploring the ruins.

As for taking the water route, he didn't even think about it.

He suspected that the ferry on the west side of the city was connected to the strange water pool where he had obtained the strange fruit, and there was even a dragon-like creature that hated him!

Without needing to refine talismans or create puppets, Chen Lin finally had some free time.

He spent most of his time researching techniques.

He had almost mastered the Flash Technique, which allowed him to dodge and weave with great agility. He discovered that this technique paired well with the Extreme Light Sword Technique, and if used in close combat, the effect would be extremely powerful.

This way, he had mastered ten techniques.

He had low-level techniques like Object Manipulation, Purification, and Flash.

He had mid-level techniques like Golden Armor for defence, metal techniques like Shocking, and five element techniques like Fireball and Water Arrow, as well as flying techniques like Royal Wind.

It was a very comprehensive set of skills.

As a mid-period Qi Refining cultivator, mastering so many techniques was already quite impressive.

Of course, except for the Flash Technique, he had learned all the others through Enlightenment Pills. Otherwise, it would have taken him several years to master them all.

As for high-level techniques, he would need to wait until he reached the late Qi Refining period, as his current spiritual energy was insufficient to support them.

I mean yes the mc has semi-mastered a lot of the techniques and I am kinda fine with that, but I think that the author is focusing too much on professions instead of trying to level up his cultivation. In my opinion his goal should be to travel to a cultivation place that a golden core is, because that place should be relatively safe. Over there he can focus on one-two professions, alchemy being one of them. I want to mention that this is the path that the humanity has also taken, called specialization. Each member specializes in something and if for example you want a car, you do not need to build it, you just buy it. As long as he is very good at alchemy for example, he will always get a lot of "money" and buy the weapon or whatever he needs...
