The hearse with the weird odor slowed to a stop before the entrance. The sound of pebbles could be heard bouncing on the ceiling. There were footsteps coming from the corridor, and there seemed to be someone sawing next door.

The door knob to the room rattled slightly, and the faucet in the bathroom kept dripping even though it had been screwed shut. There was a rubber ball that rolled on its own underneath the bed. Wet footsteps started to surface one after another on the floor.

At 3 am, Chen Ge held a cleaver in his hand as he hid beside the room heater. The call he was trying to make was finally answered. «Landlord, is this what you meant by ‘the house can be a little crowded at night’‽» Collapse

    This was my first horror novel, and it was a booming journey.
    I'll remember everyone Chen Ge, the employees, Zhang Ya, even "You all" the commenters...
    Unfortunately this is the end of this journey,. But this is not the end, Chen Ge's story will continue and so will mine.
    As an ending note, I heartfully thank the Author for providing us to ride on this wonderful and memorable Journey.

    I just love this novel joy although in the last few chapters I think author rushed it a little bit but all in all it's one of a kind novel about Ghosts I tried to find novel like this but I failed gloom

    I'm done reading the novel. I came here since I'm a fan of Mystery and Horror.
    I'm sad to say I didn't really get into the story, and I think it's because I went in with the wrong expectations.
    There are several types of horror. The main difference to me is if the main character experiences horror on a psychological level or if it's just external. And while the horror does have an effect on the MC and has the potential to psychologically affect the reader, it never got to that point. Quite the opposite, the MC gradually starts face slapping other people with horror. And while I know many appreciate face slapping, it just makes me sad.
    I lacked other books to read, so I dragged through it, hoping the ending would convince me as it was rated so highly. But it just wasn't anything out of the ordinary, while I'll agree that the book finds a decent closure.
    All I wrote in no way means this is a bad novel, it's just not what I expected, and it didn't cover the type of genre that gets me invested.
    In the end, I just took it as an adventure comedy novel with a spooky touch, which resulted in a decent read overall. I also recommend putting on scary music if you want a better experience. It helped me with the mood, as I felt the whole horror aspect didn't really come through enough.

    I'd rate this novel decent and good to pass the time or for a casual read but nothing groundbreaking.

            I think My Iyashikei Game is from the same author as House of Horrors. I will read it eventually.

            I find it hard to define "truly horror" My tastes go to mystery, horror, adventure and such. Here's what I tried that has a bit of horror in it and can at least say it was worth my time:

            Since The Red Moon Appeared
            first found it through MTL and read through it. I dropped it somewhere after 100 chapters and later picked it back up and was glad I did. It's now being translated.

            Dreamer's Throne
            it has its strengths and its weaknesses and is nice, altho not particularly scary, it's interesting enough.

            12 Miles Below
            doesn't have the Horror tag, but the atmosphere can be quite oppressing. Dropped it after season one because of certain story aspects, but might give it another try. Don't regret reading it.

            The cuttle fish novels Embers Ad Infinitum, Lord of the Mysteries and Circle of Inevitability all have this very dark undertone, and I can recommend all of them. But you probably already know them.

            Deep Sea Embers
            it's pretty good and relies less on the situation being scary and more on a scary setting and world.

            These are all more or less well known. I tried quite a few more but can't say I have found any promising underdogs.

    The haunted house scenes were some of my favourite face slapping scenes. The ghost backstory chapters were also great. I especially liked the comic artist ghost backstory.

    Great atmosphere, Great ideas, Great story, Great characters, Great ending(Zhang Ya my beloved), Great everything. One of the few cons is that the last 150 chapters felt rushed due to the Chinese Gov's pressure on the author.

    9.8/10 novel. Invisible Dragon approves.

    Dr. Gao is a giga chad bro felt like the mc more than the mc at sometimes he’s a very well written character and probably my favorite with so many development as we learn about him. I’m glad to have finished reading this novel the ending was very nice it felt rush as most of the plot points was left behind but I heard that it was pressure from China or something so I can’t really blame the author on that one, but it’s a really good novel 10/10.
