Growing up with eccentric materialist parents, who left him in the care of his grandfather for a job overseas, Zhang Heng had learned to adapt and be unfettered by the oddities and challenges in life. But he would soon learn the baffling truth about the world he thought he knew, when one day at midnight, time froze and he found himself in a world so quiet and still it was deafening.

That night, he discovered that he had 24 hours more than everybody else and thus, marked the beginning of his adventures. The mysteries surrounding his newfound ability only deepened when a strange old man claimed to have given Zhang Heng that ‘gift of time’ and recruited the young man to participate in a cryptic ‘life-changing’ game on his behalf. Little did Zhang Heng know that accepting those terms meant embroiling himself in many versions of reality and exposing himself to the hidden secrets of the world a decision he could never undo. Read this a while ago. Good novel overall. Very interesting in the first half and managed to just about keep my interest until the end. A few more boring arcs and a few forgotten about characters annoyed me. But well worth a read because the good bits are really good and it's generally well written with a well built world. Think translation might have dropped in quality at some point and the ending was average but at least it had one that brought things to a logical conclusion. 7.5/10

It's a good story if you don't mind bad translations. I thought a lot of time to stop reading because of this translation gloom but I read it anyway because of the story kef

The last 500 chapters are pretty much MTL 4 , it takes away a good portion of the enjoyment... Otherwise it was a good novel with excellent arc's and some that were not as good but that's personal opinion, to be honest I cared little for the "main storyline" but the separate storylines of each game round are surprisingly good. 12

I'm just gonna quote myself a bit here, try reading the first mission first, and see if you like it. but you're right it can be quite a discouraging to read the novel after the manhwa.

You know what grinds my gears about the manhwa adaptation? It's not just about Chronos that become a douchebag old man that reveal his identity from the get go, it's not about evil wall become a mindless pet of Chronos. It's about zhang heng becoming a faggot for his dorm mate and him becoming a goof ball that can't hold back to crack a joke every five minutes.
