With the rising tide of steam power and machinery, who can come close to being a Beyonder? Shrouded in the fog of history and darkness, who or what is the lurking evil that murmurs into our ears?

Waking up to be faced with a string of mysteries, Zhou Mingrui finds himself reincarnated as Klein Moretti in an alternate Victorian era world where he sees a world filled with machinery, cannons, dreadnoughts, airships, difference machines, as well as Potions, Divination, Hexes, Tarot Cards, Sealed Artifacts…

The Light continues to shine but mystery has never gone far. Follow Klein as he finds himself entangled with the Churches of the world — both orthodox and unorthodox — while he slowly develops newfound powers thanks to the Beyonder potions.

Like the corresponding tarot card, The Fool, which is numbered 0 — a number of unlimited potential — this is the legend of «The Fool». Collapse

use a Chrome extension called WebToEpub to create an Ebup file of this novel and then read the file on Moon Reader Pro. Just open the main page of the novel on this site and press the extension.

I love this book. The power system really reminds me of White Wolfs series of rpg games, like Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, etc

There are all sorts of elements like fantasy, noir, gothic, and Victorian fiction that are combined very well.

Was it just me who read about 10 chapters and found it pretty boring? I can't believe such a highly rated novel is bad, so I want to know if anyone else found it boring and too slow at first. Everyone I see seems to have a crush on romance at first sight.

Yes, everyone is like that. I was able to read this novel with only 4 attempts, the beginning is really boring when you read it for the first time. But then I fell in love with this novel, and it became my favorite!

No you are not alone, even thought this is one of my all time top 3 novel, i dropped it atleast 5 times when i started. Starting is very slow and it can frustrating when it feel like everything is shrouded in mystery but dont give up the build up is necessary for the plots to follow, I can guarantee if you can finish the first arc you will fall in love with this novel, no doubt about it.

The first arc is basically Vol. 1: Clown, of LoTM. It spans Chapters 1 - 213. I highly recommend to everyone to finish the first arc or the first volume as it sets the stage for the rest of the book. The world-building and settings post-volume 1 pull you in so well. I agree, the first volume was very slow and some days, hard to read. I had trouble staying engaged some chapters as there are fillers that show the humanity of the world. It is slow paced for a reason because as you get to understand the world, you understand the loss of humanity that the characters go through in gaining superpowers. I found the fillers delightful and all the more wholesome as I reread this book for the 3rd time. But as the book goes on, towards Vol. 5-8, it is very rushed (as some volumes are 50-100 chapters) due to China’s dumbass laws, that made it so that the Author had to wrap it up quickly. However, even though it was rushed, what the author got rid of was mainly fillers and the day-to-day aspect in his writing. And yet, there is a lot of world building and info-dumps during this volume as it lets the author build his world (as he has 2 sequels in mind, as book 2, Circle of Inevitability, is being published right now on web-novel). However, if you give it time to build, most, if not all, plot holes and plot points are interwoven excellently. In the end, I hope everyone gives this novel a chance as it is a masterpiece in the way it built up the world and its power system. Its all mysterious and you want to learn more. That is what makes this novel special.

“I believe that the censorship prevented the author from putting some of the occult-related elements he wanted to include in the novel, which is why the finale felt a little off.” - quoted from some reddit user

There was a train crash scene which author had to cut and edit 3 times because of censorship.

For me volume 1 was a bit slow, but the first 100ish chapters got me hooked. I did start to feel a bit bored after that, but then when the volume started to ramp up towards the end I was hooked again for the entirety of the novel.

You shouldn't judge a book by just reading 10 chapters atleast read 50-60 chapters if you still find it boring then this is probably not for you but i hope you give it a try again otherwise you will be missing out on some really good stuff

A wonderful novel! One of the best novels I have read on this website. Truly a must read! It is meant for mature audiences, so please take note of that.

It's a very interesting and thought provoking novel, with a rich plot and well written characters. It also has a history that spans thousands of years, so the character backgrounds are quite well done.

I started reading light/web novels because of this, but that lead me to think all novels have the same writing quality.
I was dumb to think that.
